About Lake of the Woods
Like many of Virginia's lake communities, Lake of the Woods started as more of a resort and second home community that has now transitioned into full time living neighborhood. Lake of the Woods was officially developed in 1967 by Virginia Wildlife Clubs and assumed by Lake of the Woods Association in 1972. Since then it has grown to 4,260 lots, 950 of which are waterfront.
Lake of the woods is actually made up of two lakes, the main lake covers 500 acres, and has two marinas, 8 sand beaches. The fishing lake is a small 35 acre lake featuring one boat launch area and a beach.
Lake of the Woods amenities include a clubhouse with restaurant, golf course, snack bar, equestrian center, community center for teens, numerous parks and sports fields, two swimming pools and more. The community maintains a full activity schedule for residents as well.
